Day 01

Upon arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be met on arrival by a representative from Classic Sri Lanka and travel to the Borderlands River Camp in Kithulgala.

In the afternoon, go on a guided walk in the Makandawa Forest Reserve in the outskirts of Kithulgala, which is home to one of the last tracts of lowland rainforests in the country. This beautiful area is bountiful in its endemic birdlife. Taking a dugout canoe across the Kelani River, one comes to the entrance of the Kelani Valley Forest Reserve. There are several walking trails in the deep dark forest, which are home to some of the rarest and elusive species of birds, amphibians, and reptiles. A walk through the village bordering the forest will give you a better chance to see these rare birds such as the Green Billed Coucal, Orange Billed Babbler, and the colorful Three Toed Kingfisher out in the open. Spend 01 night in Kithulgala
Early morning, go white water rafting, which is the ultimate adventure experience along the rapids on the fast flowing Kelani River. This adventure covers five major rapids and four minor rapids. This is an activity for guests 10 years and older. Proper safety instructions and safety gear, modern rafts as well as worlds class licensed operators make this an experience of a lifetime. Late morning, leave for the Kelburne Mountain View Cottage in Haputale.

In the afternoon, walk through tea fields while watching colorfully clad tea-pluckers and take a guided tour of a tea factory. An art developed during the British colonial period, some machines used date back over 100 years. The creation of black tea is an art form which has remained relatively unchanged for over a century.

Spend 02 nights in Haputale.
Early morning, travel with a packed breakfast to Horton Plains, Sri Lanka’s highest elevated national park lying approximately 7,000 feet above sea level and comprises of cloud forests and open grassland. Make an early morning start with a packed breakfast to Horton Plains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and take a guided walk along the nature trails to a viewpoint known as World’s End with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. On the walk back you can stop over to see the impressive Baker’s Falls in full flow. Sambar, Sri Lanka’s largest species of deer yare encountered regularly in the plains close to the entrance while the shaggy coated Bear Monkey (Highland race of the Purple-faced Leaf Monkey) is occasionally seen within the forested areas.

Afterwards, return to your hotel in Haputale and spend the evening at leisure.
Early morning, visit Lipton’s seat, which is one of the best observation points of the surrounding landscapes and is located on the top of the Poonagala hill which is close to the Dambetenna tea factory. This place gets this name after the famous tea planter Sir Thomas Lipton who was said to have used this spot to observe the surrounding region of his tea plantations. From the Lipton’s view itself one gets an astounding view of areas such as the Handapanagala lake, Chandrika tank, Udawalawe Reservoir and the Wedi Hiti Mountains, as well as the Hambantota Harbour on the southern coast.

After breakfast, leave for the Beach Camp in the outskirts of Yala in the south-east coast and enjoy a scenic drive as you descend from the central highlands to the dry lowlands.

In the afternoon, go on a guided safari to Yala National Park, which is the country’s premier destination for wildlife viewing. Yala’s star attraction is undoubtedly the Leopard and Yala Block I is believed to have the highest concentration of these big cats in the world. Leopards however are elusive by nature and we recommend a minimum of three to four game drives to have the best opportunities for good encounters. It is also one of the few places in the country where the endangered shaggy coated Sloth Bear can be seen. Asian Elephants are also encountered; lone bull elephants, a few iconic tuskers and small herds of females and calves maybe seen. Jackal, Sambar, Spotted Deer Buffalo, Wildboar and the Grey Langur are among the other larger mammals that may be seen. Spend 02 nights in Yala.
After breakfast, leave for Yala National Park.

Take part in an afternoon safari at Yala National Park. One of the key signs of a leopard nearby is the alarm calls of the Spotted Deer and Grey Langur monkeys. Your naturalist guide will also track these elusive felines based on pugmarks on the road. Spend 03 nights in Yala.
Early morning and late afternoon guided safaris at Yala National Park.

During the dry season which spans from June – September, large concentrations of Mugger Crocodile are can be seen in the dwindling waterholes. Yala is also an excellent birding destination with close to 300 avian species recorded; Indian Peafowl and Sri Lanka Junglefowl, Changeabvle Hawk Eagle, Painted Stork, Malabar-pied Hornbills, Chestnut, Green and Blue-tailed Bee-eaters are among the species seen regularly. The varied landscapes from lagoons, beaches to rocky outcrops immersed among the scrub jungle are also a treat to the eye as you search out the park's wildlife.

Evening at leisure at the Beach Camp.
Early morning, visit the Nimalawa Aranya, adjacent to the Nimalawa Sanctuary, which is a forested monastery, situated in the buffer zone in the outskirts of Yala National Park. The calm ambience of the aranya - which is a branch of the Kalyana Yogashrama Sanstha - will undoubtedly awe anyone who visits it.

After breakfast, leave for the Thejan Beach Cabanas in Induruwa in the outskirts of Bentota. In the late afternoon, go on a scenic boat ride exploring the waterways and mangroves along the Bentota River. A variety of birdlife can be seen along with troops of Toque Macaques and Bengal Water Monitors where fully grown specimens can get to over 6 feet in length.

Spend 01 night in Bentota.
Early morning, participate in water sports on the Bentota River. Sheltered by a lagoon, the calm waters in the mouth of the Bentota River make it an ideal year-round destination for water sports. Activities such as jet skiing, water skiing, banana boat rides, wind surfing and kite surfing can be included for adults and children alike.

Check-out of your hotel at noon and leave for the Bandaranaike International Airport. A day room can be booked upon request closer to the airport depending on the scheduled flight time.
